Live Nation confirmed that Madonna has canceled the Australian leg of her current tour, the BBC reports.

The pop icon’s concert promoter did not give any reason for the cancellation. Madonna is currently on her MDNA tour, which would have taken her through Australia in 2013 for the first time in 20 years.

Madonna’s tour will end in South America in December as planned,” a spokesperson said. “That’s all we can say.”

It’s being speculated that the dates Down Under were nixed after they became unfeasible due to a combination of high ticket prices and a crowded concert market. According to reports from the Australian media, stadiums in Sydney and Melbourne may have already been booked.

The move has understandably upset fans who have taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure. As the BBC points out, it’s especially surprising considering the comments the singer’s tour manager, Guy Oseary, made about touring Australia following the end of Madonna’s last tour, Sticky and Sweet, in 2009.

“Madonna really needs to go to Australia,” Oseary said during a Q&A with fans at the time. “Unfortunately it didn’t work out for this tour. She appreciates her Aussie fans coming to many of the shows . . . We are long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologise for that. It will happen.”

Madonna will be trekking through Europe for the rest of the summer before her MDNA tour returns Stateside at the end of August. In November, she’ll head to South America.
