M83 Prep New Album ‘Junk,’ Unveil Madcap ‘Do It, Try It’

French electronic outfit M83 have shared a thrilling, carnivalesque new song, “Do It, Try It,” the first from their upcoming album Junk, set to arrive April 8th via Mute.
“Do It, Try It,” which debuted on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, opens with a jaunty piano line and the distant, soothing vocals of M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez. But the song soon expands into a vibrant, kaleidoscopic dance floor opus, anchored by thundering percussion and entwined with blistering and bubblegum synths.
Junk marks M83’s seventh studio album and first since 2011’s beloved breakout, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, which boasted the indelible, sax-laden single, “Midnight City.”
Despite the lengthy break between M83 studio albums, Gonzalez has remained busy, expanding his musical purview into the world of soundtracks. In 2013, he composed for both the Tom Cruise sci-fi film, Oblivion, and the French erotic drama, You and the Night, which was directed by Gonzalez’s brother Yann.
A few days before Junk‘s release, M83 will kick off an extensive world tour, that will find the group criss-crossing North America through spring and into early summer. The trek also includes several festival appearances and international legs during the summer. Tickets and a complete list of dates are available via M83’s website.
