Lykke Li Shares Seductive Swedish Soundtrack Ballad
Lykke Li is exploring all of her eclectic talents in 2014. The Swedish songsmith stars in Tarik Saleh’s new crime thriller Tommy and recorded the sensual new song “Du är den ende” (“You Are the Only”), for the film’s soundtrack. (See below for the song’s English translation.)

It’s a slow, creeping waltz, with Lykke Li singing smokily in her native Swedish over a tense spread of strings, tremolo guitars and glockenspiels. “I let my good one down,” sings Lykke Li. “I let my true love die. I had his heart but I broke it every time. Lonely I, I’m so alone now.” The lyrical mournfulness complements the creepy arrangement appropriate for a dark thriller. Listen to the song below:
Li is also preparing to release her third studio album, I Never Learn, on May 5th. So far, she’s teased the LP with a haunting album teaser and a music video for the fragile, acoustic track “Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone.”
In Rolling Stone‘s Spring Music Preview, Li described her new songs as “power ballads for the broken.”
“I want to be my generation’s guilty pleasure,” she says. “I want to be the last song that plays at the disco for the outcasts. . . I’ve been really inspired by the great classics, the way one simple sentence can transcend generations. . . Songs like [Ben E. King and the Drifters’] ‘Save the Last Dance for Me’ or even Foreigner’s ‘I Want to Know What Love Is.’ The whole record is me trying to live up to those types of songs; feelings and themes that we have all been through and can recognize.”
