Lou Reed was treated for dehydration at a Long Island emergency room over the weekend and released. It was the rocker’s latest trip to the hospital, coming less than two months after Reed underwent a liver transplant in May.
The former Velvet Underground frontman was taken by ambulance to Southampton Hospital from his home in East Hampton, New York, around 7 a.m. Sunday, the New York Post reported. Reed reportedly returned home yesterday afternoon, according to the website The Inquisitr.
Reed made his first public appearance since the liver transplant when he attended the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity last month. Reed had liver transplant surgery at a Cleveland hospital when the state of his health became dire, wife Laurie Anderson has said. “It’s as serious as it gets,” Anderson said. “He was dying. You don’t get it for fun.”
The “Walk on the Wild Side” singer had been scheduled to play Coachella in April, but his health forced him to back out of the festival dates, along with a handful of other shows in California that were scheduled around the same time.
