A lock of Mick Jagger’s hair is about to go up for auction, thanks to an old girlfriend’s crafty grandma.
As Fox News reports, the British auction house Bonham’s is putting a piece of the Rolling Stone’s famous mane up for sale on July 3rd, along with a statement of provenance. That statement comes from one Chrissie Shrimpton, the younger sister of model Jean Shrimpton, and Jagger’s girlfriend in the early 1960s. “Unbeknown to her at the time, this lock was saved by her grandmother when Mick and Chrissie were staying at her parents’ farm,” Bonham’s description of the auction item attests. “Apparently, on her grandmother’s death, the hair passed to Chrissie’s aunt and when she died, the hair was returned to Chrissie by a cousin taking care of personal effects.”
The lock of hair comes “in a small paper enveloped inscribed ‘Mick Jagger’s hair after being washed + trimmed by Chris at Rose Hill Farm.'” Bonham’s expects the item to fetch between $2,300 and $3,100. All proceeds from the sale will go to the charity Changing Faces.
