Listen to Coldplay’s Uplifting ‘Unbroken’ Track ‘Miracles’

Chris Martin turns the page on the ‘Ghost Stories’ era with new track for Angelina Jolie-directed film

While Coldplay tinker away in the studio as they immediately start work on the follow-up to 2014’s Ghost Stories, Chris Martin and company have shared one more new remnant from the most recent LP: The piano-driven “Miracles,” which the band contributed to the soundtrack of the Angelina Jolie-directed World War II drama Unbroken.

The gentle, uplifting “Miracles” is reminiscent of Coldplay’s latest single “Ink” and finds Martin singing “From up above our heads / The angels sing to me these words / And sometimes in your eyes / I see the beauty in the world / Oh, now I’m floating so high.” It’s easy to picture “Miracles,” which will likely generate some Best Song Oscar buzz, accompanying the Unbroken end credits.

The Unbroken soundtrack arrives December 15th while the film, which tells the story of Olympian-turned-prisoner of war Louie Zamperini, hits theatres Christmas Day.

Last week, part-time U2 singer Martin visited BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and hinted that the band’s next album – tentatively titled A Head Full of Dreamscould be their “final” LP. “It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that,” Martin told Lowe. “Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.” Martin also added, “I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.”
