A soft piano cradles the hummed melody, setting the mood for Ivan & Alyosha’s newest single, ‘All the Times We Had.’ It’s simple but well-crafted, as different elements – a steady drum, the melancholic cry of a violin – seamlessly flow in and out of the arrangement. The thick harmony features singer-songwriter Aimee Mann’s sweet soprano, adding some female power to the all-male, four-piece band.
Refreshingly, the track is not your typical ode to love, but a bittersweet goodbye between friends. “‘All the Times We Had’ was written about a very dear friend of mine, and how we needed to part ways for the time being,” bassist Pete Wilson tells Rolling Stone. “I truly believe that you can be the best of friends with someone, but at the same time completely capable of holding each other back in life. This song is about letting go.”
