“You will be pleased to know that i am currently in the fucking studio with @GregKurstin,” Allen wrote in response to the website PopJustice’s minor jab about the lack of new music from Allen after the “Smile” singer revealed her penchant for Kate Nash’s new song.
That Tweet was followed by: “no big deal really, im just throwing shit at the wall and seeing if anything sticks.”
Whether or not anything sticks, it’s been a while since Allen released any music. Her last record, It’s Not Me, It’s You (produced by Kurtsin), dropped in 2009, after which she announced she would take a break from music.
Since then, however, Allen has stayed busy: She opened a fashion rental shop with her sister, Sarah, and in 2011 she started her own record label, In the Name Of, whose first signee was the Brooklyn act Cults. After approaching several record companies as possible homes for the label, she inked a deal with Sony that reportedly payed the singer a £100,000 salary to run the imprint.
Last year, Allen gave birth to her first child, Ethel Mary, after she and her husband, British businessman Sam Cooper, suffered two miscarriages.
