Lily Allen Reenacts ‘Gravity’ in ‘Air Balloon’ Clip

Lily Allen described her new video, “Air Balloon,” as “bullock on a budget” on Twitter, but at least that Bullock’s budget could afford butterflies, zebras, a leopard, Windex and hippie burnouts. It also accounted for a floating-in-space scene that looks more pleasant than anything that other Bullock (the one with a big budget) experienced in Gravity. Mostly, Allen’s “Air Balloon” clip is a fun and grounded fantasy befitting of the song’s fantastical and escapist lyrics.

Allen, who now sports pigtails that make her look a lot like NCIS actress Pauley Perrette, spends most of the video grounded. She dances with the butterflies, lounges on a blanket-covered couch with the burnouts and runs her glittery nails through one of the zebras’ manes. When the song breaks for a snotty ha or mmm, she mugs at the camera. (And when she kisses the screen, she’s even courteous enough to clean her lipstick off, but then again, they don’t have the budget to let it sit there.)

The singer, whose last album It’s Not Me, It’s You came out in 2009, has not yet revealed whether or not “Air Balloon” is part of a bigger release. It was reported that she had begun making music again in June 2012, but the singer took a break to give birth to her daughter Marnie.

Allen released her first new song from the sessions, “Hard Out Here,” last November and the audio for “Air Balloon” in January. This week, the singer unveiled new track “L8 CMMR,” from the soundtrack Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do. . ., out February 11th.
