Lily Allen Obsesses Over Her Man in ‘Girls’ Tune ‘L8 CMMR’ – Premiere
The third season of Girls has been on a musical winning streak this year, as it has premiered new music by Beck, Miguel and Jenny Lewis. The latest is “L8 CMMR,” a giddy, unreleased track by Lily Allen that also appears on the show’s soundtrack, Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do. The way Allen tells it, placing the song in the show made perfect sense to her.

“I think the show is brilliant, so it was more or less a no brainer for me,” she tells Rolling Stone. “Greg Kurstin, who produced and co-wrote this track with me, played a few of the new tracks for a friend of his who works on the show. Apparently [music supervisor Manish Raval] loved the songs, and later came back to Greg asking if he could include one of the tracks in an episode.”
The three-and-a-half-minute tune opens with a trumpet fanfare and is a statement of intent: “Look at my ring,” she sings about her lover, telling other women, “You can’t have him.” It’s a song of devotion and obsession, a gleeful exclamation point underscoring her love and lust. “Don’t know why I love him so much,” she sings at one point. But judging from another lyric, and the catchy melodies her male muse inspired in her, she’s not pondering it too hard. “Under the covers, my mind is a bad motherfucker,” she sings.
Allen is currently working on her untitled, third album – she’s already previewed two tracks, “Hard Out Here” and “Air Balloon.”
Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do is out February 11th.
