Lil Wayne Talks New Single, Ja Rule’s Sentence, New Year’s TV Special

In a wide- ranging interview on Sirius’ Shade 45 radio show this morning, Lil Wayne talked about the first single off his forthcoming album Tha Carter IV, “6’7″”, which hit the internet this afternoon. “It’s a monster,” said Wayne. “But hopefully, it shows people where I’m at lyrically — Better than everybody!”
During the call, Wayne — who was released from prison last month — also talked about Ja Rule getting a two-year prison sentence on gun charges yesterday, and his forthcoming performance with Nicki Minaj on Carson Daly’s New Year’s Eve special.

As for Ja Rule, Wayne has an unfortunate connection to the MC’s prison sentence: Rule was arrested on the same night in July 2007 that Lil Wayne was arrested on the gun-possession charge that sent him to jail earlier this year, and Ja joined Wayne onstage at Weezy’s headlining concert at New York’s Beacon Theater earlier that night.
“That’s super crazy, I’m very disappointed in it,” Wayne said of the sentence. “Me and Ja, we was kinda locked up together: We was in the same holding tank that same night, we went to court the next day together. To know that I’ve already dealt with that situation and come home, I would imagine that’s a hard pill to swallow.”

Wayne also clarified some of the confusion around the New Year’s Eve special, which tapes on Thursday. It was initially announced as a free New York show via Wayne’s Twitter account — but he quickly retracted it.
“I was just mad that somebody went on my Twitter, like that’s my personal Twitter,” Wayne said. “Everybody know, I don’t do no promoting. … I don’t ever have to promote nothing, that’s the beauty of Lil Wayne.”
Wayne also quickly mentioned his appearance with Eminem on Saturday Night Live this weekend, and said he’ll be shooting his forthcoming Rolling Stone cover in the next few days.
