Another single off Lil Wayne’s upcoming Rebirth, “Da Da Da,” emerged this weekend, just days after the Scarface soundtrack-sampling “On Fire” leaked. Produced once again by Cool & Dre, “Da Da Da” falls more in line with Weezy’s dream of a rap-rock album. The track opens up with a guitar lick before the hard-pounding drums, synths and riffs kick in, with Wayne’s voice so Auto-Tuned that lines like “I’m your Kevin Costner, and I will be your bodyguard” are almost reverbed beyond recognition. This is a “rap-rock” album, so thankfully Weezy returns to his MC day job with a killer verse toward the latter third of the track. Visit Nah Right to listen to the track.
As Rolling Stone reported last week, Wayne’s “On Fire” made prominent use of Giorgio Morodor’s Scarface soundtrack by sampling Amy Holland’s “She’s On Fire.” The song was the first Rebirth track to emerge since the album was tentatively and finally scheduled for release in December, more than eight months after Weezy’s Tha Carter III follow-up was slated to hit shelves (though the rapper did bridge the gap with his No Ceilings mixtape).
While both “On Fire” and “Da Da Da” are available for purchase as digital singles over at the iTunes Music Store, Rebirth itself still hasn’t been posted on iTunes as a pre-order, nor does the two tracks’ listings on the service even mention Rebirth, which according to Amazon.com is now due out December 21st. However, as Rolling Stone reported last week, the Rebirth track list posted on Amazon.co.uk sports both “On Fire” and “Da Da Da,” plus a collaboration with Eminem called “Drop the World.” The Amazon page also lists a deluxe edition of Weezy’s new album with extra bonus tracks, however no other details are provided.
