Rapper and her assistant charged with perjury and conspiracy, set for June sentencing

Rapper Lil’ Kim was convicted on Thursday of perjury and conspiracy for lying to a federal grand jury to protect friends involved in a 2001 shootout outside a New York radio station, Hot 97.

The rapper, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, was acquitted of obstruction of justice. Lil’ Kim’s assistant was also convicted on the two charges. Both face up to twenty years in prison. They will be sentenced on June 24th.

In her testimony, Lil’ Kim, 29, said she did not see her manager Damion Butler and her friend Suif “Gutta” Jackson at the scene of the 2001 shootout. Both men have since pled guilty to gun charges.
