Liam Gallagher and Roger Daltrey Join Forces on ‘My Generation’

Liam Gallagher and Roger Daltrey joined forces on Friday night in a supergroup performance of the Who’s “My Generation.” The ex-Oasis frontman took the stage with the Who singer for a two-hour special celebrating the 20th anniversary of the British TV show TFI Friday.

Filling out the one-off group were former Oasis drummer Zak Starkey (also an unofficial member of the Who) and guitarist Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, along with the Lightning Seeds’ Ian Broudie. The evening also included Blur performing “Coffee & TV,” off their 1999 album 13.

Daltrey is currently in the midst of the Who’s 50th anniversary tour, which begins its North American leg in September. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he explained that the current tour will probably be the band’s last. “I do know this is the last big tour we’ll ever do,” he said. “We have to be realistic. I want us to stop at the top of our game when we are still really good at what we do. The quality of the music is really what this is all about.”

As for Gallagher, the singer made some news in May with a series of Tweets criticizing his brother Noel for, among other things, appearing to disparage One Direction and its departed member Zayn Malik. The Gallaghers’ ongoing feud prompted none other than Paul McCartney to weigh in: “My advice to them? Just get together and make some good music,” he said during an online Q&A with Japanese fans. “But they have got to want to do it. I think a lot of people would like them to do that. They are pretty cool guys.”
