Sydney-bred, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Lenka uses her body as a landscape in this innovative video for “Nothing Here But Love.” Directed by her husband, visual artist James Gulliver Hancock, the clip for this contagious indie-pop number – taken from her new album, Shadows – is downright fascinating.
To create a city block occupying her inner thigh, a lake across her breast and forestry atop her hip, Lenka teamed with a film prosthetics prop-maker who designed and carefully placed the pieces of land over her body. Although the shoot required her to lie in an uncomfortable position for five hours, the Australian asserts that the challenging experience “was totally worth it.”
“The song describes a utopian fantasy world of pure love and sweetness,” Lenka explains to Rolling Stone. “I become like a mother-nature figure, resembling a train set model. . . I eventually start to connect all the little creatures that reside on me with their significant other. It’s a true romance!”
