Le1f Gets Surreal and Bubbly on Trippy ‘Koi’ Video

Rapper teams with PC Music’s Sophie for infectious new single

It’s difficult to place exactly what’s going on in Le1f’s new surreal music video for “Koi,’ the SOPHIE- produced single off his upcoming debut album Riot Boi, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting.

Directed by Simon Ward, the video gives off the vibes of MGMT’s “Electric Feel” as we follow Le1f and his dance crew on beaches and through jungles as giant koi, miniature koi, cartoon eyes and disembodied lips make various appearances.

According to Le1f, Riot Boi will tackle current social issues such as racism and gay rights. The record is set for release on XL Recordings and produced by Evian Christ, Dubbel Dutch and PC Music’s SOPHIE.

Le1f has been bubbling since 2008, starting out as a producer for avant-garde hip-hop group Das Racist before moving on to solo work upon his release of his 2012 mixtape Dark York. (The Liquid and Hey EPs would soon follow.)

The rapper is scheduled to perform at Hopscotch Music Festival on September 12th alongside artists like TV On the Radio, Pusha T, Deerhunter, and many more.
