LCD Soundsystem Documentary Will Hit Theaters This Summer

Shut Up and Play the Hits, a documentary about the final days of LCD Soundsystem, will hit theaters across the United States this summer in a series of one-night-engagements at movie houses. North American rights to the picture, which was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, have been picked up by Oscilloscope Laboratories, the production and distribution company founded by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys.

“Perhaps having grown up in a band for most of my life – a band that formed when I was 16 years old – and having released our first record when I was still in high school, this film addresses so many questions,” Yauch said in a statement about the film. “For instance, it can be pretty clear when a band starts, but perhaps less so when it ends, or how it should end. In that sense, it’s brilliant of James to end it in such a definitive way.”

You can watch a clip from Shut Up and Play the Hits in which LCD Soundsystem play “North American Scum” for a final time with a horn section and members of Arcade Fire at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
