Rising pop singer Lauv and Julia Michaels play out an ill-fated on-the-road romance in the video for their new single “There’s No Way.” Michaels said the song is “about wanting to be with someone, but sometimes the timing is wrong.”
The video for “There’s No Way” centers around this exact scenario, with Lauv and Michaels playing bandmates on tour who share an array of intimate moments and glances as they prepare for their show and when they’re on stage as well. After the performance, Lauv and Michaels seemed destined to finally kiss, but the moment is interrupted when their respective partners arrive and usher them away from each other.
Lauv spoke about writing “There’s No Way” with Michaels, saying, “The first time we met we didn’t even write a song, we just talked about life and emo bands and stuff. A few days later me, her, Justin Tranter and Ian Kirkpatrick got into the room and wrote ‘There’s No Way.’ For me the song is about meeting someone and immediately feeling that connection where you can’t help but have crazy chemistry, and though your lives don’t quite line up in that moment, you know someday everything could go down between you two.”
Lauv and Michaels are set to perform “There’s No Way” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert October 1st. The track follows Lauv’s recent single, “Superhero.”
Lauv is about to embark on a North American tour that includes a mix of headlining shows and concerts opening for Ed Sheeran. The trek kicks off October 4th with a gig with Sheeran at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
