Lauryn Hill Schedules Rare Shows

The comeback of reclusive R&B singer Lauryn Hill will continue later this month with a string of shows along the East Coast that begins with a show in South Burlington, Vermont on December 19 and ends with a performance at a Miami festival in March.
Hill, who is billed as Ms. Lauryn Hill for these performances, has been gradually ramping up her live-performance schedule in the States after a long hiatus. She performed at a few dates of this summer’s Rock The Bells Festival and staged a well-received show in Miami last month.
Tickets for Hill’s shows in New York and Boston — which include a New Year’s Day show at the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan — went on sale Friday; tickets to the Atlantic City concert, which is at the House of Blues, go on sale Saturday. The Miami New Times reports that she is also headlining the March 19 lineup of the Jazz in the Gardens Festival in Miami.

Last summer Hill spoke to NPR about her comeback. “I’m trying to open up my range and really sing more,” she said. “With The Fugees initially, and even with Miseducation, it was very hip-hop — always a singing over beats. I don’t think people have really heard me sing out. So if I do record again, perhaps it will have an expanded context. Where people can hear a bit more.”
