Lana Del Rey’s New Album Is Called ‘Ultra-Violence’

Lana Del Rey’s “very fickle” muse is apparently more amiable than she lets on. The pop singer announced the title of her new album last night at the Hollywood premiere of her short film Tropico. Dressed in red velvet and black military boots, the “Summertime Sadness” songstress addressed an audience of cell-phone-waving fans before rolling out the 30-minute short. “I really just wanted us all to be together so I could try and visually close out my chapter before I release the new record, Ultra-Violence,” she said, as captured on Instagram. But other than the title, which references a phrase in author Anthony Burgess’s 1962 book A Clockwork Orange, she didn’t reveal any other info about the follow-up to last year’s Born to Die.

Lana Del Rey’s Odd ‘Summertime Sadness’ Success

In October, Del Rey was cagey about the prospects of a new album. At the time, she told Nylon, “When people ask me about it, I just have to be honest — I really don’t know. I don’t want to say, ‘Yeah, definitely — the next one’s better than this one,’ because I don’t really hear a next one. My muse is very fickle. She only comes to me sometimes, which is annoying.”

Tropico will premiere today on Vevo.com at 11 a.m. EST and contains music from the souped-up Born to Die – Paradise Edition. She’s described the film as “Elvis and Jesus and Marilyn and extraterrestrials all in one.”
