A decade after its original release, Lamb of God will reissue As the Palaces Burn on November 11th, appending three rarities and a video to their second album. The esteemed underground metal quintet’s remixed and remastered version of the disc premieres here and – with previously unreleased demos of “Ruin,” “Blood Junkie” and the title track – should delight the Richmond, Virginia, group’s dedicated following.

The 26 Albums You Need to Hear This Fall

Written in the wake of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks, the album was a reflection of the times, most notably on the anti-Bush rant “Blood Junkie.” “We all lived through that time and we had the vehicle to express those opinions,” drummer Chris Adler explains in all new liner notes by writer Tom Beaujour. “I think it would have been irresponsible to not speak our minds.”

In the years since the band teamed with producer Devin Townshend on Palaces – which counts the scorching “A Devil in God’s Country” and the Chris Poland-augmented “Purified” and can be preordered here – Lamb of God have thrived as leaders in the heavy metal community. Picking up where the likes of Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer have left off, the group has crafted six studio albums, including their most recent set, Resolution, which debuted at Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lamb of God are currently in the midst of their latest U.S. tour leg with kindred spirits Killswitch Engage, Testament and Huntress. The band touches down at the Fillmore in Denver on Tuesday (November 5th).
