Lady Gaga Explores Solar System in ‘Venus’

Singer ponders sensual implications of interdimensional travel

Lady Gaga makes a circuit around the solar system, or maybe just creates an elaborate metaphor for sex, on her new song “Venus,” the latest in a string of tunes she singer has promised to share in the run-up to the November 11th release of her new album, ARTPOP.

A booming club beat anchors the song as Gaga describes her look (“Aphrodite lady, seashell bikini”), ponders the sensual implications of interdimensional travel as practiced “in your bedroom” and demands, in classic space-alien parlance, to be taken to your leader. Although the song is called “Venus,” Gaga name-checks other planets, which ultimately allows her to make a Uranus joke: “Don’t you know my ass is famous?” she barks.

‘ARTPOP’ and 25 More Must-Hear Albums This Fall

Earlier this month, Gaga promised to release a new song every week until ARTPOP comes out. Last week’s entry “Do What U Want,” featuring R. Kelly, first appeared in a 30-second commercial. The singer also teased a snippet of “Aura” in a trailer for Machete Kills, in which Gaga appears as La Chameleón. The pop star released the first song from ARTPOP, “Applause,” in August, and performed it on the MTV Video Music Awards.

“Each song on ARTPOP was inspired by different types of adrenalin, so it’s an expression of the various rushes,” Gaga said earlier this month on Twitter. “I want you to feel them.”
