Originally issued as a track on Seal's second album, it wasn't until a year later that this ballad became a massive hit, after its inclusion on the Batman Forever soundtrack. As a result, the lyrics to "Kiss From a Rose" have nothing to do with the caped crusader. "All my songs are therapy," Seal told Rolling Stone. "I'm giving therapy to myself." Jack Black would go on to perform the song on an episode of American Idol in 2007 — a version that failed to impress all of the judges but drew praise from Seal himself.
