Kendrick Lamar Plots Intimate Kunta’s Groove Sessions Tour

“Music! Dance! Performance!” Kendrick Lamar promises all this and more on the rapper’s inaugural Kunta’s Groove Sessions, a series of eight intimate concerts that will find Lamar backed by a live band (dubbed the Wesley Theory, a nod to To Pimp a Butterfly‘s opening track) as well as his fellow Top Dawg rapper and “Money Trees” cohort Jay Rock.
Lamar has revealed the first four dates of his Kunta’s Groove Sessions, which will take place in much smaller venues than the arenas he’ll also visit this autumn. The first Session will go down at Atlanta’s the Tabernacle on October 27th; stops in Dallas, Washington, D.C. and Oakland, California are also scheduled in subsequent weeks. Tickets for the first four Kunta’s Groove Sessions go on sale Friday; check out the Top Dawg site for ticketing information.
In addition to the intimate gigs, Lamar will also hit the stage for some high-profile performances this fall, including an October 20th appearance backed by the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Arena gigs in Brooklyn, Chicago and Lamar’s native Los Angeles are also booked.
