Katy Perry to Start Own Record Label
Katy Perry is currently working on starting her own record label, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Perry has been signed to EMI’s Capitol records since 2007. While there’s no official news regarding where the imprint will exist, it will most likely be under the EMI/Capitol umbrella.
“When this record label does come to fruition,” said the pop superstar of the unnamed enterprise, “I’m going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I’m thinking, ‘How would I want to be treated?'”
In a recent profile, Perry also discussed the years of rejection and struggle (from being unceremoniously dropped to rejecting bad publishing deals, even when she most needed the money) that preceded her 11 Number One singles, all of which inspired her approach towards running her own label.
Not surprisingly, Perry is staying busy elsewhere: She recently dropped her latest video, “Wide Awake,” and her new 3D concert film, Katy Perry; Part of Me 3D will hit theaters on July 5th.
