Kate Bush Expands ‘Before the Dawn’ London Residency
Kate Bush has added seven more dates to her surprise live-comeback residency, “Before the Dawn,” in London. Her first in-concert appearances in three decades now span 22 engagements and three months at London’s Hammersmith Apollo this summer and fall. Tickets for the shows, listed below, go on sale March 28th.

Bush has been more active in the recording studio in recent years, beginning with her 2005 album Aerial, which at the time was her first record in 12 years. Since then, she has released two more albums in 2011, Director’s Cut and 50 Words for Snow, but has avoided the stage. Before the Dawn marks her first major concert appearances since her six-week 1979 tour to support her debut The Kick Inside.
“I am delighted to announce that we will be performing some live shows this coming August and September,” the singer wrote on her website to announce the shows. “I hope you will be able to join us and I look forward to seeing you there.”
In 2012, Bush reportedly turned down an invitation to appear at the Olympics closing ceremony, according to the U.K.’s Daily Mail. But she did show up to accept a South Bank Arts award that year. The Mail reports she was “trembling under the stage lights.”
Explanations as to why Bush has avoided touring have included physical exhaustion, a fear of flying, the fact that she took a break from touring in the Nineties to raise her children and the death of her lighting director on her 1979 tour. Regardless of the reasoning, in a 2011 interview with Mojo, Bush said she had not totally closed the book on touring.
“I still don’t give up hope completely that I’ll be able to do some live work, but it’s certainly not in the picture at the moment because I just don’t quite know how that would work with how my life is now,” she said. “Maybe I will do some shows some day. I’d like to think so before I get too ancient. I enjoy singing, but with the albums it’s the whole process I find so interesting. If I was going to do some shows it would be the same thing. Let’s just see, shall we?”
