Kara DioGuardi to Judge New TV Competition for Singer-Songwriters

Former ‘American Idol’ judge will join host/mentor Jewel on Bravo show

Kara DioGuardi, who left American Idol
last month, has revealed her she will be serving as the head judge on Going Platinum, a new competition show for singer-songwriters. Jewel will host and mentor the contestants,
EW‘s Popwatch reports

On the show, which will premiere on Bravo next year, 12 contestants will compete for $100,000, a publishing deal with Sony and a record contract with RCA/Jive. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Random Notes: Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Elton John

While Going Platinum is clearly inspired by Idol, there are two major differences between the two: Contestants will pen their own music, as opposed to singing well-known hits, and the judges, not the television audience, will decide who stays and who goes.

A network rep told the site that the show will feature plenty of “personal drama” that “will unfold within the show and in [the contestants’] lyrics as they compete and live together.” It will also have current recording stars as guest judges.
