Kanye West’s Yeezus Tour Reconstructed With Fan-Made Video

West superfan spends months sifting through hours of YouTube footage to recreate rapper’s polarizing set

Kanye West‘s Yeezus tour was one of the most polarizing concert experiences in recent memory. On one hand, the “creative concept” of the Yeezus album was frustrating given the rapper’s affinity for wearing masks and the stage’s monolithic, view-obscuring “Mount Yeezus.” However, the Holy Mountain-inspired visuals also allowed the crowd to zero in on West’s “fiery, confident performance,” as Rolling Stone called the Yeezus show.

Even West’s headlining Bonnaroo set split the audience, with the performance both triumphant and “booed.” Although the North American leg of the tour wrapped up in February, one fervent West fan named John Colandra has reconstructed the entire performance and, in a way, the tour itself by using concert footage uploaded to YouTube, Complex reports.

“Compiling footage from almost every stop on the Yeezus tour to make one cohesive film. Using professional and gorilla [sic] style footage,” the YouTube video’s description reads. “The film flows beautifully and not a single major aspect of the Yeezus tour goes unnoticed. Detail was crucial and over seven months of work went into this project.” The YouTubed “YEEZUS FILM” is a DIY interpretation of the trek; an official document, directed by music video legend Hype Williams, is “coming to theaters,” West’s official site promises.

West is reportedly working on the follow-up to Yeezus, which could include collaborations with Paul McCartney (on a song called “Piss In Your Grave”) and James Blake. The rapper recently compared Yeezus to Bruce Springsteen’s stark classic Nebraska, saying, “I have a feeling this next one has to be Born in the U.S.A.”
