Kanye West Won’t Be Charged in Alleged Beverly Hills Attack

Kanye West will not face criminal charges over an alleged attack in Beverly Hills last month. The Associated Press reports that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office rejected the battery case because West had reached a civil settlement with the man who accused the rapper of punching him, and because no significant injuries had been documented.

The fight reportedly broke out at a Beverly Hills chiropractor’s office on January 13th when an 18-year-old man got into an argument with West’s fiancée, Kim Kardashian, and hurled racial slurs at her in regards to West. According to a document prepared by a prosecutor, Kardashian phoned West to report the encounter and West came to the office, where he attacked the man.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the district attorney’s office said that West “punched the person an unknown number of times.” A police report was filed, but the alleged victim’s attorney said he had reached a civil compromise with West and was declining to seek criminal prosecution.
“Further inquiry by this office resulted in the victim, through his attorney, declining to speak with a member of the district attorney’s office,” authorities said in a statement to the Times. “Prosecution is accordingly declined due to victim unavailability.”
West is still facing charges from his videotaped tussle with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport last July. He pled not guilty to the misdemeanor battery charge in November and the case is scheduled for a hearing on February 25th. In the meantime, West will be resuming his Yeezus tour next week with a stop at Penn State on February 9th.
