K-Pop Festival KCON Expanding to East Coast This Summer

K-pop is set to invade the East Coast this summer as KCON, the biggest North American fan convention celebrating all things South Korean entertainment, will go bi-coastal after three years of setting up shop in Los Angeles. With the L.A. fest scheduled for July 31st through August 2nd, the East Coast version of KCON will head to Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on August 8th for a one-day convention packed with panels, activities and K-pop performances.
KCON has become so popular in the U.S. that even the Los Angeles fest is expanding to a larger venue – the Staples Center – as attendance has ballooned since the inaugural KCON LA in 2012. KCON also hosted their first ever Japan convention on April 22nd. Like the Los Angeles KCON, the New York version will feature panels, activities, meet-and-greets and even “K-food” during the day, while the evening brings a star-studded concert buoyed by some of the genre’s biggest acts.
“Hallyu fans already know that KCON is the only place you can interact with your favorite stars, and fangirl in-sync at spectacular concerts, stimulating panels, and dynamic workshops – only at KCON,” the convention says on their official site. “If you’re new to Korean entertainment, that’s even better! KCON is a treasure trove of exhilarating activities and unique performances that you can only experience once a year!”
