It's the most fun I've ever had," says Justin Timberlake, not of his arena tour with Xtina but of his surprise late-night after-show club gigs. "It's like wearing your favorite pair of jeans without any underwear. Free-ballin'. Anything can happen." When Timbersnake hit New York's living Plaza at 1 A.M., his own señorita, Cameron Diaz, was swooning on the balcony with pal Drew Barrymore. Hate on him if you want, but, backed by a crack soul squad, he was in command and frighteningly funky.

This story is from the September 18th, 2003 issue of Rolling Stone.
