Justin Bieber Turns Himself In for Alleged Limo Driver Assault

UPDATE: TMZ reports that all charges in Bieber’s alleged assault have been dropped.
Less than one day after his Valentine’s Day arraignment was set for charges of drunk driving and resisting arrest, Justin Bieber turned himself in to Toronto police for allegedly assaulting a limo driver in a separate incident late last year.

According to the AP, a limo driver for the pop superstar alleged that a member of the singer’s entourage assaulted him, though it remains unclear what Bieber’s role was in the incident.
Bieber’s attorney issued a statement proclaiming his client’s innocence. “The Toronto Police Service requested that Justin Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault relating to an incident on December 29, 2013,” Howard Weitzman said. “We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States. Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent. As the matter is now before the court, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation or of our defense at this time.”
Earlier this month, producer Douglas Romanow tweeted a picture of himself and the singer working in Romanow’s Toronto studio. “Justin Bieber’s retirement rumors are greatly exaggerated,” he wrote, using the hashtag #bieberintoronto. “I’ve been recording him in Toronto.”
It’s been a difficult month for Bieber, who was arrested in Miami Beach early last Thursday for drag-racing in a rented yellow Lamborghini with fellow musician Khalil Sharieff. The 19-year-old failed both a sobriety test on the scene and Breathalyzer given to him at the Miami Beach police station. Bieber resisted arrest nonviolently, but was reportedly swearing at Miami Beach police officers before being hauled away. On Wednesday, Bieber pleaded not guilty to the charges, with the singer’s attorney Mark Shapiro saying that it’s undecided whether Bieber will appear in person to answer the charges.

That arrest followed a search of Bieber’s California home after he allegedly threw eggs at his neighbor’s house. As a result of the raid, rapper and Bieber associate Lil Za was arrested for alleged possession of cocaine.
Given the singer’s recent legal troubles, a petition on Whitehouse.gov asking the Obama administration to “deport Justin Bieber and revoke his green card” was created. So far it has amassed more than 150,000 signatures. The White House has said that it will respond to any petition garnering more than 100,000 signatures.
