Watch Jorja Smith’s Intimate ‘Don’t Watch Me Cry’ on ‘Colbert’

Song appears on British R&B singer’s debut LP, ‘Lost & Found’

Jorja Smith performed an intimate version of “Don’t Watch Me Cry” on Thursday’s Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

The British R&B singer crooned over mournful piano chords, exploring a fractured, post-breakup headspace. “Oh, it hurts the most ’cause I don’t know the cause/ Maybe I shouldn’t have cried when you left and told me not to wait,” she sang. “Oh, it kills the most to say that I still care/ Now I’m left tryna rewind the times you held and kissed me back.”

“Don’t Watch Me Cry” is the closing track from Smith’s June-issued debut LP, Lost & Found. The album, which follows her 2016 EP, Project 11, made the shortlist of the U.K.’s prestigious Mercury Prize alongside the Arctic Monkeys, Florence + the Machine and Lilly Allen.

Smith recently released a video for Lost & Found single “On Your Own.” She will promote the record on a headlining fall tour; the 18-date trek launches November 19th in Seattle, Washington and wraps December 19th in Toronto, Ontario.
