Joni Mitchell is “making good progress” after suffering an aneurysm this past spring, according to singer-songwriter Judy Collins. The latter singer reported the news via Facebook, citing a “close mutual friend” as her source. Mitchell is also “walking, talking, painting some [and] doing much rehab every day,” according to Collins, who says she’ll try her best to see Mitchell while visiting Los Angeles in the coming weeks. The singer, who related a story about another friend of hers who took years to recover from an aneurysm, also said that she’d like to record a “Judy Sings Joni” CD at some point in the near future.

The “Woodstock” songwriter, 71, was hospitalized in Los Angeles last March after emergency responders answered a 911 call claiming she was unconscious at her home. This past June, David Crosby was first to report she’d suffered an aneurysm. “She’s going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury,” he said in a Huffington Post interview. “She’s a tough girl, and very smart. So, how much she’s going to come back and when, I don’t know and I’m not going to guess.”

Mitchell’s conservator, Leslie Morris, confirmed Crosby’s aneurysm claim shortly afterward but refuted a claim Crosby made that she was not speaking. “The truth is that Joni is speaking, and she’s speaking well,” Morris said. “She is not walking yet, but she will be in the near future as she is undergoing daily therapies. She is resting comfortably in her own home and she’s getting better each day. A full recovery is expected.”
