Former Smiths guitarist releases new single from ‘The Messenger’

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr is getting ready to release his first proper solo effort, The Messenger, on February 26th, and now he's following-up the fist-pumping "The Right Thing Right" with the forthcoming single "Upstarts." You can check out the simple new clip for the track, which shows the band performing the steady chugging rock cut in which Marr muses, "The underground is overground / The overground will pull you down" and unleashes slingshot riffs.

"This record is a little more rooted in the New Wave shows I used to sneak in to see when I left school," Marr told Rolling Stone in a recent interview, "not directly, but in terms of the energy, the shadow of the memory of that."
