Jimmy Page to Premiere Deluxe ‘Physical Graffiti,’ Answer Questions on Yahoo
Jimmy Page will premiere the complete companion audio to the upcoming deluxe edition of Led Zeppelin‘s Physical Graffiti on Yahoo Live this Thursday, in advance of its release date next week. Afterwards, the guitarist and producer will answer questions from a live audience in attendance at London’s Olympic Studios, where the group recorded some of the album.
The new edition of Physical Graffiti, which Page personally remastered, will come out on February 24th, the 40th anniversary to the day of the original double-LP’s release. Deluxe editions of the reissue will contain a full album’s worth of companion audio. Some of the songs from the disc have already surfaced online, including a rough mix of “Houses of the Holy” and an early version of “Trampled Under Foot” titled “Brandy and Coke.”
It also contains a rough mix of “In My Time of Dying” and a Sunset Sound mix of “Boogie With Stu,” along with the early, rough orchestra mix of “Kashmir,” known as “Driving Through Kashmir,” and a track titled “Everybody Makes It Through,” which is what the label is billing as a “strikingly different” take on “In The Light” with different lyrics. The new edition of the album will be available in a variety of formats, including CD, vinyl and digital releases, along with a deluxe version containing a hardbound book of rare photos.
In other Page news, the guitarist has announced the release of a box set titled Sound Tracks, containing his scores for Kenneth Anger’s arty Lucifer Rising and the Charles Bronson revenge film Death Wish II. As with the Led Zeppelin reissues, these new versions contain archival music, featured on discs titled Lucifer Rising: The Second Coming and Death Wish II: Expansion, respectively.
“The archive material and work included here serve as an illustration of the ongoing process at the time of these two projects,” Page said in a statement.
The box set, which will be available in four-CD and four-LP editions, will contain a booklet with track-by-track commentary from Page. It’s slated to come out on March 6th.
Page is currently working on a new solo album, which he’s simply described as a “guitar project.” “What I’m doing is something that’s going to be quite different,” he said at a London event. “It wouldn’t be anything that hopefully you’d imagine I would do.”
