“The Future Is Voting Tour” comprises six nonpartisan, multi-artist shows and kicks off October 7th with a gig at Emo’s in Austin, Texas. The trek will also stop at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and the major college towns of Athens, Georgia and Urbana, Illinois.
Along with James, the tour will feature Benjamin Booker and Made of Oak, while additional musicians will be announced soon. Ticket information for the October 7th Emo’s show is available on the venue’s website, while all other gigs will be free for students. Some concerts will also be streamed on YouTube.
“The importance of getting involved at this moment in time cannot be overstated,” James said of the tour. “This isn’t only a Get Out The Vote concert. This is a learning moment aimed at college students to motivate them to vote, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum. Each stop on the tour purposefully takes place in a contested electoral district or state for this important midterm election, where students and young voters have the ability to dramatically affect the outcome of this tremendous moment in history. Please join special surprise guests and myself at these events with the goal of truly inspiring thought, discourse and participation.”
James organized the “Future Is Voting Tour” with the voter-engagement non-profit, HeadCount. The organization has also created an Indiegogo page where fans can make donations and receive special tour merchandise or experiences in return.
James released his most recent solo record, Uniform Distortion, in June.
