Jerry Garcia Gets Birthday Tribute in ‘Move Me Brightly’ – Premiere
Last August, Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir held a five-hour concert called “Move Me Brightly” at his TRI Studios in San Rafael, California, in honor of what would have been Jerry Garcia‘s 70th birthday. A number of musicians, including members of Vampire Weekend, the Hold Steady, and Phish joined Weir onstage, where they riffed on Dead jams like “The Wheel,” “Cumberland Blues” and “Goin’ Down the Road, Feelin’ Bad.”
Where Does Jerry Garcia Rank on Our 100 Greatest Guitarists List?
This celebratory concert has been chronicled in Move Me Brightly: Celebrating Jerry Garcia’s 70th Birthday, a new film that’s part concert footage and part documentary. Directed by Justin Kreutzmann, son of Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, Move Me Brightly features contributions from Garcia family members – in the above clip, actor Luke Wilson interviews Jerry’s brother Tiff about a childhood accident that left Jerry without a finger – and others who knew Garcia well, such as Carlos Santana and Sammy Hagar.
Move Me Brightly hits stores October 29th (pre-order the DVD at Amazon or at TRI Studios’ official website). Check out the full tracklist of songs from the performance, including bonus tracks, below.
