Jennifer Hudson will join a chorus from Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing “America the Beautiful” before the Super Bowl in New Orleans Sunday, The Associated Press reports. Hudson will sing alongside 26 children from the school in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 first-graders and six adults were killed in a mass shooting on December 14th. Super Bowl XLVII will air this Sunday on CBS. Alicia Keys will sing the national anthem, and Beyoncé is set to perform the halftime show, which will include a Destiny’s Child reunion.
The surviving children of the Newtown shooting also recorded a version of “Over the Rainbow” to support the United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Youth Academy charities. They linked up with singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, and recorded at the home studio of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club.
