Jeff Beck had to bail out of a planned appearance on American Idol this week due to travel problems, but he did make it over to Los Angeles in time to perform on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Joined by singer Imelda May, the former Yardbirds guitarist performed a killer version of The Shangri-Las’ 1964 classic “(Remember) Walking In The Sand.” Their cover of the song appears on Beck’s new live album Rock and Roll Party (Honoring Les Paul). They are currently touring the show around America.
Beck is in the midst of cutting a reunion album with Rod Stewart, but it’s unlikely that they will go on any sort of long tour to support it. If that doesn’t happen, Beck should seriously thinking about touring with Jimmy Page next year. It’s quite clear that Led Zeppelin are never going to play again, and Page is in desperate need of a project. The former bandmates played a smoking mash-up of “Beck’s Bolero” and “Immigrant Song” at the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Check out the video here. They could easily put together an amazing show. Just an idea…
