Jay Z Dedicates ‘Young Forever’ to Nelson Mandela

Rapper pays tribute to the late South African leader in L.A.

Jay Z closed out his show at L.A.’s Staples Center on Monday night with a tribute to the late Nelson Mandela, who died on December 5th at the age of 95. “We want to dedicate this song to Nelson Mandela, a great man who spent 27 years in prison and came out to be president,” Jay Z told the crowd as the opening chords of “Young Forever” began to chime and photos of the South African leader glowed above him. “

It was the second tribute Jay Z has paid to the late leader; the day he passed away, he posted a tribute on his Life + Times website. “All our dreams are possible,” he said at the show. “Tonight I’m living my dream in front of y’all. So anybody out there got a dream, y’all chase that mo’fucker down as hard as you can. Let that great man stand as an example of what you can do.” The number ended with a giant crowd sing-along on the chorus.

Jay Z was recently nominated for a slew of Grammys. His “Magna Carter World Tour” continues through January 31st.
