Jay Z, Coldplay to Headline Inaugural Global Citizen Festival in India
Jay Z, Coldplay and Demi Lovato will perform in India on November 19th for the inaugural Global Citizen Festival in India. The show will feature several Indian artists and Bollywood celebrities in support of the Miracle Foundation. It will also be Jay Z and Coldplay’s first-ever shows in India.
Much like the Global Citizen Festival held in New York City, where Chris Martin is creative director, the India event will be free to those who perform various social tasks. The Mumbai show will use crowdfunding efforts through the website Ketto to raise money for children without parents and fund 25 children’s homes across the country. Miracle Foundation, the non-profit partner, also will help enable education funds and scholarships.
“Our festival combines music with social causes that have an impact and Miracle Foundation has had a huge impact on vulnerable children,” Global Citizen India’s spokesperson Arnav Sahni said in a statement. “Fueled by Ketto’s remarkable crowdfunding platform, we hope to raise money and awareness so the Miracle Foundation can continue to do their inspirational work.”
Global Citizen Festival launched in 2012 and takes place annually at New York City’s Central Park. It partners with the Global Poverty Project, a movement aiming to end extreme poverty by 2030. In its inaugural year, Foo Fighters, Black Keys, John Legend and more headlined the festival. Both Jay Z and Coldplay headlined the festival in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Demi Lovato helmed this year’s event back in September.
