Janelle Monáe has nixed concerts in California and Arizona to comply with “strict doctor’s orders for mandatory vocal rest,” the singer wrote on her website after postponing shows in Anaheim, San Diego and Phoenix. “Not doing so could possibly result in damage to my vocal cords.”
Monáe wrote that the postponements left her “heartsick and shaken because I live for this: connecting with you and giving you a one of a kind concert experience.” She added, “But alas, apparently even the most expertly designed android breaks down sometimes and must recharge.”
Her current outing is now scheduled to resume Saturday, November 9th, in Dallas. Monáe’s latest album, The Electric Lady, came out in September with guest spots from Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange and Miguel. In addition to her tour, Monáe appeared last month on Saturday Night Live, and performed at the iTunes Festival in London.
The canceled shows have yet to be rescheduled.
