James Taylor Will Join ‘The Voice’ as a ‘Mega Mentor’
James Taylor will join The Voice as the show’s Mega Mentor. The singer-songwriter will appear on the 18th season of the competition series, starting April 13th.
Taylor will join judges Blake Shelton, Nick Jonas, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson, who whisper Taylor’s name to each other in the teaser above. “That’s going to be amazing,” Legend says to Jonas, as he passes the message along to Blake Shelton, who mistakingly hears “Elizabeth Taylor.”
In February, Taylor dropped an album of standards. “In terms of how they were performed and recorded before, we paid attention to the chords and melody,” he said of American Standards. “But we were interested in doing something new, and in bringing something new to it, we’ve reinterpreted the songs, that’s what makes it worth doing.”
Taylor recently postponed his joint summer tour with Jackson Browne due to the coronavirus pandemic. He also donated $1 million to the Massachusetts General Hospital for relief efforts.
“As we all now realize, COVID-19 is a serious, real and present danger,” Taylor and Browne said in a statement. “Moreover, our public health is all of our responsibility. So let us listen to and follow the directions of our public healthcare people and support their efforts in this unprecedented time of global pandemic. Love those around you and, above all, stay safe and healthy.”
