Interpol Come Out of the Black in ‘All the Rage Back Home’ Video

The song is the lead track on the group’s upcoming album, ‘El Pintor’

Interpol frontman Paul Banks sings in shadows as black-and-white imagery of a man riding a surfboard opens the video for “All the Rage Back Home,” the lead track on their upcoming record El Pintor. But once the drums kick in, the lights come on and the band charges through the anxious, atmospheric post-punk number as the surfer’s waves get bigger and rounder. It’s a simple video that Banks co-directed for a stripped-down song, which finds the singer also handling the bass as he has occasionally done since founding member Carlos Dengler split in 2010.

The group will release El Pintor – its first record in four years and fifth overall – on September 9th. Interpol recorded the album as a trio for the first time in New York with Banks pulling double-duty on guitar and bass. The record also features guest appearances by Secret Machines’ Brandon Curtis, Beck associate Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Bon Iver’s Rob Moose.

In advance of the album, whose title translates from Spanish to “the painter” and is an anagram for Interpol, the band released video of select studio recordings. Earlier this year, the band premiered “All the Rage Back Home” and two other tunes from El Pintor at a gig in Newcastle, England. Fan-shot footage of the other two songs, “Anywhere” and “My Desire,” is available online.

Interpol will be touring the U.S. in the late summer and fall.
