Icky Blossoms Embrace Neon in ‘Heat Lightning’ – Premiere
Formed during a raging blizzard in 2011, the Omaha outfit Icky Blossoms have spent the past year developing a clever, catchy sound that combines monster pop-rock hooks with bass-driven electro. They released their self-titled debut on Saddle Creek earlier this summer and now, you can check out their new vibrant, kaleidoscopic clip for the album cut “Heat Lightning.” (See the band’s tour itinerary here.)
“For the ‘Heat Lightning’ video, we worked with our friend and video artist Ross Brubeck,” frontwoman Sarah Bohling tells Rolling Stone. “Being fans of his animations, we wanted this video to feel different then our others. Visually, we were inspired by classic chroma key band performance videos. The song itself feels dark but with bursts of light so, for the color palette, we went black and white with flashes of neon.”
