Ice Cube, Common Cut Their Hair, Beef in ‘Real People’ Video
Ice Cube and Common sit down for a trim in the new video for “Real People,” the duo’s collaboration for Barbershop: The Next Cut, in which they star as well.
Set in a barbershop and interspersed with footage from the upcoming movie, the video matches the song’s positive vibes with Ice Cube and Common preaching community, togetherness and an end to violence and the music that promotes it (“Who the fuck turned 2Pac into a thug?” Cube spits, “All I used to get was a pound and a hug”).
“Real People” also notably finds the two rappers addressing their own feud, which began after Ice Cube took offense to a line about West Coast rap in Common’s “I Used to Love H.E.R.” He responded on the Mack 10 track “Westside Slaughterhouse,” which prompted a vicious retort from Common on “The Bitch in Yoo.”

The pair ultimately patched up their beef with the help of Louis Farrakhan, whom Common shouts out in “Real People”: “Glad Farrakhan prepared us to meet / Now me and bro bringing meals to the meek.”
Barbershop: The Next Cut opens April 15th. The movie also stars Nicki Minaj, Anthony Anderson, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Eve, Tyga and J.B. Smoove.
