A week ahead of its release, Scottish producer and DJ Hudson Mohawke has made his first album in six years, Lantern available to stream on iTunes, and released a captivating lyric video for new single, “Warriors,” featuring Ruckazoid and Devaeux.
The clip opens with a quick shot of a man dressed like Ronald McDonald from Lantern‘s initial promo looking haggard and exhausted while snow falls around him. It quickly jumps to a title card and the clip itself, which comprises a number of female dancers moving to the triumphant, pulsating track as the lyrics flash across the screen and, eventually, appear painted on their limbs.
“Warriors” follows previously released Lantern cuts “Very First Breath,” “Ryderz” and “Scud Books.” The 14-track album boasts a number of guests including Miguel, Antony Hegarty, Jhené Aiko and Irfane.
While Mohawke has been previewing Lanterns during various DJ sets this spring, he debuted his new live setup earlier this week, including keyboardist Redinho and drummer Ben Thompson. Mohawke has a number of international festival dates — including sets at Leeds and Reading Festival in the U.K. — lined up for this summer. His only upcoming North American date is an appearance at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas, which takes place November 6th through 8th.
Lantern officially arrives on June 16th via Warp and follows Mohawke’s 2009 debut, Butter. The producer, however, has been far from silent during that time: He’s produced tracks for Azealia Banks and Drake, and worked extensively with Kanye West on both the G.O.O.D. Music compilation, Cruel Summer, and West’s 2013 effort, Yeezus. The latter’s “Blood on the Leaves,” sampled heavily from “R U Ready,” a track by TNGHT, a duo comprising Mohawke and Canadian DJ Lunice.
