Hear Zach Galifianakis Narrate Gibby Haynes’ Surreal Children’s Story

“The Next Big Thing,” written by Butthole Surfers singer, highlights multi-media all-star book project ‘Stories for Ways and Means’

Zach Galifianakis narrates “The Next Big Thing,” a surreal children’s story by Butthole SurfersGibby Haynes, in a clip promoting the all-star book project Stories for Ways and Means. The actor-comedian conjures an “extra dark” forest scene, where 12-year-old Oscar and his dog, Krypto, encounter a pack of rivals crossing a bridge. “Oscar knew that nothing happy was going to take place,” Galifianakis foreshadows.

Created by Waxploitation label founder Jeff Antebi, Stories for Ways and Means is a 350-page book featuring original stories by an eclectic crew of musicians, including Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Pixies’ Frank Black, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Laura Marling, Devendra Banhart, Alison Mosshart and Kathleen Hanna. The project also features animations including narrations by Danny DeVito, Nick Offerman, Phil LaMarr, King Krule, Joey Bada$$ and Lauren Lapkus.

Ways and Means is packaged as a standard hardcover book. There is an exclusive signed hardcover edition (limited to 100 copies). Both are available to pre-order and proceeds benefit Room to Read and Pencils of Promise, two non-profit organizations dedicated to children’s literacy.

The Wire actor Andre Royo narrated Nick Cave’s short story “The Lonely Giant” last November.
