Industrial music had its brief moment in the sun in the alt-rock Nineties, when a band as confrontational as Nine Inch Nails could get mainstream radio play and have its S&M-inflected videos in regular rotation on MTV. Now, a new group is following in the combat boot steps of NIN, Nitzer Ebb, Skinny Puppy and other industrial pioneers and bringing the style’s aggro clatter, chilly synths and harsh, distorted vocals back into the limelight. Meet coed duo Youth Code, who come endorsed by the likes of the Deftones’ Chino Moreno and the aforementioned Skinny Puppy (who have taken them out on tour multiple times). The band is gearing up for the release of its highly anticipated second full-length, Commitment to Complications, which it is presaging with a new track, “The Dust of Fallen Rome.” Hear it below.

“‘The Dust of Fallen Rome’ is an experimentation in polar opposites, mixing brutality and beauty in one song,” the band’s Ryan George says. “Breakneck EBM that slams into a half-time chorus that could easily be mistaken for a breakdown if it wasn’t drenched in analog strings and delicate arpeggios.”

Lead vocalist Sara Taylor adds, “Lyrically, it deals with the struggles of watching everything one could love vanish in an instant, and dealing with the aftermath of despair and wonder as to what comes after total emotional depravity.”

Commitment to Complications is due April 8th on Dais Records.
